I Want to Reach the Sky
I want to reach up to the sky,
Light streams through pale skin as I try.
I squint my eyes against the sun,
Soon, a heavy cloud will come.
Yet light pours in, and it seems to show
A glimmer of hope in its soft glow.
I need that hope like I need air,
In my calm world, serene and fair.
A world I paint in shades so bright,
Yet always feel that gentle light,
It seeps through walls, a beam of grace,
A hope that lingers in this place.
It dances in the muddy pool,
Of wasted words and promises cruel.
Yet even there, it warms my soul,
And makes the broken pieces whole.
With that small knowledge, I break free,
From pain that’s settled inside of me.
I paint the light in my own home,
It fills the space, it overflows.
The warmth surrounds, and now I find,
I shield my eyes from the sun’s kind shine.
