How Many Acoustic Pictures Should I Use, and Where Should They Be Placed in the Room to Achieve Optimal Effect?

The key to achieving optimal sound-dampening effect in your home is to find the right number of acoustic panels relative to the size of the room. As a rule of thumb, the acoustic panels should cover between 10 and 20% of the floor area in an ordinary room with about 2.5-3 meters ceiling height. If you have a floor area of 40 square meters, you should use 4-8 acoustic panels. The size of each panel is not important, as it is the total area that counts.

After this, it may be relevant to consider the placement of the panels in the room, as it will be more effective to place the acoustic panels at speaking height on the wall rather than, for example, on the ceiling. This is because when we speak, we primarily emit sound in horizontal lines, so the sound hits the wall first, and the acoustic panels can therefore absorb a larger portion of the sound in the area. However, sound also spreads to other parts of the room, so acoustic panels on the ceiling will still have a beneficial effect.
